I loved this anime and wished they kept on going! The suspence in it is great and all the Idea's that Yagami Light had I love! A new world would be great, one without criminals or evil, and a new god.

*kicks* You can't have good without evil. Also, anyone who kill is evil and that would mean that users of the Death Note would need to kill them selfs

He'll be the only one that is evil by only killing those who are evil and those who try to stop him :3 I win

The whole message of deathnote was about how the best of intentions can turn out to be evil. Light just wanted a perfect world, one where everyone could live there lives without fear of all the evils that are currently around us, But the balance of nature doesn't work that way.
Light was able to stop a lot of the crime of the world, but even once he had been using the deathnote for years, and criminals know there was a real chance they would die there was still a list of criminals to kill every day. All light was doing was replacing the fear of criminals with the fear of hold judgment from being a criminal.
Light ruined a lot of peoples lives that were Innocent, they were trying to catch him to make the world better, they were no different them him, but he still killed people who were just trying to do the right thing.
But....this is all just my opinion ^_^

After actually reading the final book 'How to Read' and the multiple interviews, both Ohba and Obata had agreed that there was no 'message' in truth. They both had decided ultimately that the debate over what is Good and what is Evil was too complicated and simply wanted to give the younger audience something that didn't involve chakra or zanpakutou, or anything that had to do with violence in the sense of all-out battles.
But good opinion, nonetheless, amberlight.
This is my only opinion; Unlike many, I would say that I thoroughly enjoyed the arc of the Higashi Kira. Seeing Light act as he was before the occurance of the Death Note was something I felt took alot of effort from Ohba and Obata, and it was great to see how Light really could have been the next best detective up there with L and Near. Sorry, Mello and Matt just don't count to me.

I would have liked this anime if it hadn't become so over publisized so fast. I typically like the older animes where the fandom has been established and everyone isn't jumping on the band waggong all at once and acts like a bunch of idiots. -_- that type of fandom annoys me.
Oh, and the ending made me mad....it REALLY made me mad...
But one thing is for sure, I know when I go to OTakon its going to be DeathNote and Naruto all over the place...

Still mostly Naruto, though. Afterall, L, Light, Near, Matt, and Mello are all SO easy and normal to dress up as.

No mater how Kira/Light thinks. There will always be evil as there is always evil, no matter have small, in everyone alive. He cannot kill everyone on Earth yes he wins *hands him the debate for death note award*!!!!! congrats blacksnowdog!!!! Think before you speak my friend. You have no Award to give out.

How long was Death Note actually around before it became a huge fandom? somewhere around a few months persay? You should see all the stuff on youtube about it. My friends and I found this one thing that had been on the news. Some kid must have read the manga then decided to do a roleplay or something with friends and they had a notebook called Death Note and in it they were writting all this stuff about which people they wanted to die and how and blah blah blah...sometimes things get so blown out of proportion its insane.
Three of my friends did a Death Note Cosplay for Ketsukon this year. And I think they're doing it again for Otakon this year as well.
